Peggy Louise Price | February 21, 1943—January 27, 2025

Vance Monroe Price, an island resident for 81 years, passed away on November 6, 2025.

His wife, Peggy Louise Price, preceded him in death on January 27, 2025.

Peggy is survived by her two children, John Hendow, (Teresa), Elizabeth Anne Lee (Roger) and her granddaughter, Hannah Lee.

Vance is survived by cousins, Bonnie Ryan Rohrer (Ron), Michael Ryan (Christi), Tena Ericksen Palmer, Carolyn Ericksen Kramps and Elaine Ericksen and their families.

Vance’s parents, James Price and Gladys Ericksen Price, his half- sister Shirley Price Hill, spouse Natalie Price, plus cousins Erick Ericksen and Bette Ericksen Love predeceased him.

His senior Vashon family members, also deceased, are Leo Ericksen (Dorothy) and Bea Ericksen Ryan.

Vance’s island life story is well known to many islanders, as he lived his entire life on the island. He was the only active employee for the Vashon Cemetery and managed the beautiful grounds there for over 20 years.

Vance had way too many friends from his bachelor days which included the Kimmel boys, the Cunninghams, Dick Bostain, and many classmates. He was known for his love of automobiles, motorcycles, dogs, and locals. If he went to the grocery store, it took him longer to visit than to pick out his groceries. His dogs were his “kids” and he tolerated one cat for 5 years.

The memories he shared about life on Vashon in the 1960s were the best entertainment anyone could ask for.

He married Peggy Barlow in 2011, which was the happiest day of his life. The photo of Vance and Peggy at their engagement party in 2011 says it all. He followed his promise to take care of Peggy for better or worse and was dedicated to her care for more than 4 years.

Along with a devoted family, his friends were faithful and appreciated — Lao Kiriazis, Beto Sahagun, Patrick Cunningham, Fred Miles and many others from his 82 years on the island.

A huge thank you to the Vashon Fire Department staff, Lisa Coley, the MIH and EMT Team, the Senior Center staff and volunteers, and his caretaker María Pottinger.

Thank you, too, to everyone at the SeaMar Clinic who were always so caring and kind to both Peggy and Vance.

There will be a private family gathering at the Vashon Island Cemetery, but no formal service per Vance’s request. If anyone wishes to acknowledge Vance’s contributions to Vashon Island, please make a donation to VIPP, the Senior Center or Vashon Care Closet. These organizations all provide outstanding services for island residents.

Rest in peace, Vance and Peggy. Together.
