Janice Ruth “Jan” Solandros (née Aaseby), age 86, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Federal Way, Washington.
Born on February 24, 1939, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Jan was the daughter of Palmer Joseph Aaseby and Emma Minerva Aaseby. She grew up in Minnesota and Spokane, Washington and went on to pursue a career in nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse—a role that reflected her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Jan shared her life with her beloved husband, George Solandros. Together they raised three children: Nick Solandros (Morgan), Chris Solandros (Heide), and Kari Farwell (Sage). Her devotion to her family was unwavering and central to her life.
Throughout the years, Jan remained active in her community. She was a dedicated member of her local chapter of P.E.O. International (Philanthropic Educational Organization), where she contributed to the organization’s mission of supporting educational opportunities for women. In addition to her community involvement, Jan found joy in spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and many pets over the years—pastimes that brought comfort and creativity into her daily life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, James Wayne Aaseby.
In honor of Jan’s memory and in recognition of causes close to her heart, donations may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation in her name.
Jan will be remembered for her courage, helpful spirit, loving nature, and deep dedication to those she held dear. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A memorial gathering will be held on January 31, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Yahn & Son Funeral Home, 55 West Valley Highway South, Auburn, Washington, 98001.
There will be a reception at Yahn & Son immediately following the memorial service.
