Joshua John

Joshua John, a Vashon Islander for 18 years, died Sept. 20, 2001, in Punta Banta, Mexico. He was 56 years old.

Mr. John was born April 29, 1946.

In the last 10 months of his life, he found happiness along the coast of Mexico, his friends say. Before moving to Mexico, he made Vashon Island his home for 18 years.

His mother, Marian Shallenberger, died earlier as did his best friend, Lizzie, his pet corgi.

Survivors include his many extended family members on Vashon Island and in the Pacific Northwest as well as family and friends in Mexico, Maryland and California.

Friends say he will be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, sarcastic sense of humor and search for truth in all of life’s relationships. His presence and influence touched many, his friends say.

An event to celebrate his life will be set later.
