Claude Sidney Sprinkle died June 25, 2006, of cancer. He was 88 years old.

Born Nov. 29, 1917, in Fort Smith, Ark., he lived the last 34 years of his life on Vashon Island.

Mr. Sprinkle proudly served his country in World War II and the Korean War as a Sergeant 1st Class in the U.S. Army Air Force. Everything he put his hand to he did with all his heart and to the best of his ability, friends and family say. Everyone who knew Claude could not help but be attracted to his lively humor, generous spirit and ready smile.

His greatest legacy was to partner with his wife in leading their children to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, the family says.

He and his wife moved to the Island from Southern California after their three grown children settled there.

His wife of 59 years, Margaret Esther, died in 1999, and his 38 year-old grandson, Jason, died in 2005.

Survivors include sons Daniel of Vashon Island and David and his wife, Esther of Everett, daughter Lorraine and her husband, David of West Seattle, and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

A graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, at the Vashon Island Cemetery.
