LETTER: VCA

Count me as excited that k.d. lang is coming to Vashon. Her commitment to supporting both the land and the arts is a powerful testimony to the vibrancy of our community and the specialness of Vashon. I know some are bothered by the ticket prices, and indeed many will find the ask more than they want to spend. All I can offer in return is the causes are worthy and the objectives are good … raise money for preserving more land and supporting the arts and arts education on Vashon. It’s an investment in our community that comes with an awesome concert from an amazing artist all rolled into one.

One of the things I most appreciate about The Beachcomber is the great attention paid to arts and culture on Vashon. Looking at the VCA calendar, I see Dave Grisman playing on Jan. 27, our very own Kat Eggleston & John Dally and Camille & Gus Reeves kicking off a monthly Local Music Series on Feb. 2, Grammy-award winning vocalist Paula Cole on Feb. 10, Reggae and world music superstar Matisyahu on Feb. 17, and of course, k.d. lang on Feb. 23 and 24. A true cultural bounty with price points for every pocketbook. And that’s just at VCA.

Few communities our size have such an incredibly rich range of art and performance on offer every week of the year. None our size will be hosting k.d. lang in such an intimate setting, much less the kickoff of her much anticipated 25th Anniversary tour.
