Letter wrongly accused islander of trespassing

Published 3:30 pm Wednesday, April 10, 2019

I wrote a letter to the editor that appeared in The Beachcomber last week (Sharing the beach a matter of respect), which was a response to a letter submitted by Merna Hecht on March 23, titled, “Who Owns a Beach, Who Owns the Water?”

I am humbled and ashamed to say that I was in error and in fact, it was not Ms. Hecht, as I falsely stated, who was leading the children onto private property — I should have verified the information before accusing her. I wrongly pointed my comments toward her, and I am deeply sorry for that. My letter to the editor was ultimately about respecting each other, and I failed to reach my own standards in the most blatant way possible. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Hecht and to everyone I misled.
