Jeff Woollen | 1948-2025

Jeff moved to Vashon in the late 1990s and loved the island so much that he stayed here for the remainder of his life.

Jeff “That Jeff Guy” Woollen sadly left our world on Aug. 31, at Swedish Medical Hospital.

He had just celebrated his 77th birthday when cancer of the tongue prevented him from speaking, eating and eventually breathing.

Born Aug. 12, 1948 in Los Angeles, Calif., he moved to Bellingham in 1971, had a couple kids and a family, then eventually found his way to Vashon Island near the late 1990s.

He loved Vashon so much he stayed here for the remainder of his life. Jeff was heavily involved in Drama Dock — he really found his confidence in the theater community here. With several major roles in productions such as “The Sound of Music,” “Annie,” “Oliver,” “Wizard of Oz,” he even co-wrote the music of an original adaptation of “Treasure Island: The Musical” for Drama Dock in the summer of 2005.

In his last years, Jeff spent enjoyed his first love, music. He was an accomplished musician and songwriter, and built a business from his music studio, Raven Cries Studios, here on Vashon, where he helped several artists and musicians bring their songs and dreams to fruition.

He is survived by two sons, Josh and Jordan.

Jeff was an “over-achiever,” to say the least. At 16, he graduated high school, where he was also the lead singer of a rock-n-roll band, ESP. He opened for The Doors, printed an LP and traveled to Europe by himself at 18. He built his first house by himself by the age of 20, and even built his last house here on Vashon too (with several in between).

He will be forever missed — but his music and his joyous spirit continues on.

There will be a celebration of his life at The Coop on Oct. 26. Email Chuck for more information, at clroehm@gmail.com.
