Gregory James Beardsley | 1954-2026

In loving memory of Gregory James Beardsley

June 23, 1954 — January 7, 2026

Gregory James Beardsley passed away on January 7, 2026 after a long struggle with diabetes.

Born in Seattle on June 23, 1954, Greg’s family moved to Vashon at the age of 2. He attended Vashon schools, graduating from Vashon High School in 1972. Continuing his higher education, Greg attended the University of Puget Sound and obtained a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He was a member of the Phi Delta Fraternity.

Greg spent more than 20 years working for the family business, PSF Industries. He ran the Salt Lake City division for 2 years, was OSHA certified and developed the PSF Industries Safety Program.

Greg devoted over 20 years to the Washington State Ferry Committee for Vashon, advocating for the needs of island residents and helping strengthen the ferry system that is so vital to the community.

He was also actively involved with the Virginia V Foundation for 30 years, supporting the preservation of a cherished piece of maritime history. He volunteered many hours and enjoyed his work as an engineer, maintaining and restoring the vessel which at one time was part of the Mosquito Fleet that served Vashon Island.

Greg loved a big project and his big toys. He was happiest on his excavator, moving around heavy equipment, constantly working on and improving his property. He enjoyed welding and metal fabrication, was very mechanical, constantly tinkering and fixing things. Greg was a perfectionist.

Greg eventually sold his Vashon home and moved east of the mountains, to Ellensburg in 2021. This was a longstanding dream, where he continued his pursuit of property improvement and formed a new community of friends.

Gregory is survived by his mother, Marjorie W. Beardsley; his siblings, Warren (Mary Ann) and Melissa (Claudia Morgan); his nephews, Kevin, Christopher and Brett, as well as his beloved Bernadoodle Ellie. He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Beardsley Jr., and his sister, Kim Von Hopffgarten.

A private family gathering will be held to honor Gregory’s life.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Virginia V Foundation in honor of Greg Beardsley.
