LauraMae Wojciechowski | February 19, 1939 — March 2, 2026

LauraMae Wojciechowski, a lifelong resident of Vashon Island, passed away on March 2, 2026, at the age of 87.

She was born on Vashon Island on February 19, 1939, to Delbert and Mae Smith. She met her future husband at the community dance hall in Dockton. Donald was in the Army and stationed on Vashon in 1956. They married on August 24, 1957, and raised 7 children. LauraMae spent her entire life surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the warmth of the community she proudly called home.

A woman of deep integrity, traditional values, and a delightful sense of humor, LauraMae dedicated herself entirely to the well-being of her loved ones. She possessed a quick wit and an infectious laugh that could brighten any day. Most of all, LauraMae lived by the steadfast motto, “There is always room for one more”- a generous philosophy that ultimately became the legendary “Woji way of life.” Her home and her heart were infinitely expandable, while ensuring that no one ever felt like a stranger.

LauraMae enjoyed working at Peoples National Bank, K2 Skis, and Pacific Research Laboratories. Beyond her professional life, her creative spirit and civic pride shone brightly during the annual Vashon Island Strawberry Festival. Serving on the festival’s float committees, she worked to raise funds supporting local island kids through the Vashon High School Booster Club and Vashon Youth Baseball. She was also a great fan of the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners and never missed a game.

LauraMae’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving, and wonderfully patient mother whose guidance, unconditional love, and humor shaped the lives of her children. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Wojciechowski, her siblings Lee Smith, Betty Plancich, Greg Smith, and Joann Blevins.

She leaves behind a profound legacy through her surviving family: her children, Thomas Wojciechowski, Jeanine Carlson (Thomas), Cynthia Shride (Joseph), Kenneth Wojciechowski (Dawn), Gary Wojciechowski, John Wojciechowski (Ileana), and Barbara Rice. She was also the proud and doting grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness, light, and a brand-new audience of humor into her life.

A celebration of life and a private graveside memorial service will be held where LauraMae will be laid to rest alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in LauraMae’s honor to Vashon Island Fire & Rescue or the Vashon Senior Center, two local organizations that serve the island community she loved so dearly
