Gardening on Vashon means dealing with the never-ending visits of black-tailed deer, notorious for chowing down on island vegetable gardens. Fencing, plastic mesh and chicken wire are all common measures taken to keep out these unceasing ungulates, which have no natural predators on Vashon.
