Jury service is the cornerstone of democratic participation | Guest column

Jury service is the most likely role residents will have in our justice system.

Egg hunts are an Easter tradition, including on Vashon, which saw a mob of kids take Ober Park last weekend at the Park District's annual event to carefully capture the many hundreds of plastic eggs left for them. But there's another kind of creature on Vashon well-known for its ingenuity and dexterity when it comes to finding eggs and other snacks: the common North American raccoon. Securing waste containers and chicken coops is a good way to send these crafty omnivores looking elsewhere for dinner.

The Annual Egg Heist

Washington State Ferries last week shared this photo of Sailor Evan Tarbell, who while picking up a pizza for his crew at Vashon’s north end ferry terminal, used the pizza box as a makeshift umbrella for a student boarding the ferry during a sudden downpour. “In that moment, he showed care, creativity and a clear sense of responsibility – not just to his team, but to the community we serve,” WSDOT Deputy Secretary for WSF Steve Nevey said in a statement.
