Islanders got a taste of Island Center Homes, a 40-unit affordable housing development at SW 188th Street and Vashon Highway, during an open house on Dec. 7. A ribbon-cutting for the development is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, at which time Vashon HouseHold will officially mark the development as finished.

Matt Vinci to step down as Vashon’s fire chief

Vinci has accepted an offer to become the fire chief of Spokane County Fire District #9.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says nearly 15,000 people get emergency room care each year for injuries related to holiday decorating. About 40% of holiday decoration accidents are falls. Stay safe on ladders. Have a partner work with you to steady the ladder, for example. Wear shoes that give you traction against slips and falls. Never stand on chairs or furniture to hang decorations.
