Cynthia Keen

Cynthia Marie Keen, former Islander, was born to Bruce and Helen Keen on Nov. 24, 1956. She died suddenly on March 28, 2007.

Cindy was born in Seattle and raised in West Seattle where she attended West Seattle High, graduating in 1975, and later graduated from the University of Washington. She became a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and was awarded both a degree in English and a teaching certificate.

Cindy went on to teach at St. Benedict’s school in Seattle before pausing her career to raise her family, first her daughter Kimberly then welcoming twins Joe and Molly. Cindy was a devoted mother, using her teaching skills as she raised them to be intelligent, curious and loving individuals.

She had a big, loving heart, her family says. Whether she had just met someone — and she loved meeting people and making new friends — or had known someone for years, she would go out of her way to help or do some thoughtful gesture to brighten their day. Cindy had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories to make people laugh. Always a kid at heart, she used her creativity with gusto to decorate and cook for any and all holidays. In her spare time, she liked to garden and scrapbook.

Cindy’s mother Helen Keen died earlier. Additional survivors include her children Kimberly, Joe and Molly Aigner (Bellevue), her father Bruce Keen of Vashon and stepmother Elaine of Sammamish, her sister Catherine Keen-Conway of Port Orchard and her many close friends.

A memorial service was held at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in West Seattle on Wednesday, April 4, 2007. Private graveside services preceded the memorial on Vashon.
