Mary Bringolf

In Loving Memory of

Mary Bringolf

1921 – 2013

Mary B. was born in Seattle March 1921 to Dwight and Mary Peck.

She spent her first five years playing on the boardwalks on Lake Washington. When she was five her folks bought a house up above Lincoln Park in West Seattle. It was a fun location for Mary who went all through school with her many friends.

After graduating from high school Mary attended the University of Washington where she met Dick Bringolf, another West Seattle student. They married in 1940, but the war cut their schooling short and brought many changes to their lives.

Mary’s life revolved around her love of family, her happiness came from her children. She was very supportive of all their activities and schooling. For fun she and Dick would pile everyone in the car Sundays and go “exploring” around the state. Exploring by car or boat was a lifetime pleasure.

After a couple of summer rentals, Mary and Dick decided to move to Vashon permanently. They built their home at Sandy Shores in the mid ‘60s with lots of

room for family and friends to celebrate and beach comb. They loved their new community at Sandy Shores and Dockton. They were part of the St. Pat’s group.

When Mary retired from her Seattle commute she joined the Senior Center to get to know her neighbors. She learned bridge, played golf, participated in Children’s Orthopedic guild and delivered meals on wheels for several years. She shared her time, was known for her quick wit and had a great sense of humor.

During the past few years Mary’s life was more restricted, but she had two children caring for her at home as well as loving caregivers led by wonderful Susan Laughlin. Her last two months were at Island Elder Care and we are very grateful to Theresa Shipley and her staff for all their loving kindness. Mary died peacefully May 31, preceded by Dick in 1998. She’s off exploring on a new adventure and leaves behind all six children: Elise (Bugsy) Hass, Barb Hawkins and Gerry, Rick Bringolf and Nancy, Kathleen Jennings, Tim Barrett, and Maureen Barrett, also 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

We were all very blessed to have had her in our lives.
