Shirley Helen Cecelia Johnson Boardman

Shirley Helen Cecelia Johnson Boardman

Our beloved Shirley – mother, grandmother, sister and cherished friend – slipped into the loving arms of her Harold early Friday morning, surrounded by family in her room at Vashon Community Care.

Raised in Kimberly, British Columbia, Shirley and Harold met and married while attending the University of British Columbia. They lived in Wilmington, Delaware and Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania for over forty five years before returning to the northwest in 1993 where they made their home near family, on Vashon Island, Washington. Shirley was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington and the Vashon Presbyterian Church. She continued to practice her faith as part of the Life Changing Prayer Group after she and Harold moved to assisted living in 2003.

The family is enormously grateful to the wonderful staff at Vashon Community Care. Shirley was lovingly assisted for nine years with increased care through her later decline due to heart failure.

Shirley was 91. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jude, daughter Carolyn (Mugs), son Bryan, sister Marge, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family and extended kin plus many dear friends hold Shirley close in their hearts and will always remember her warmth, intelligence, grace, good humor, positive outlook and generosity of spirit.
