Walter was born in Seattle, WA to

Walter and Edna Ackerman. Walter grew up in the Wallingford area and

attended Lincoln High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and served four years. He married Clarine Wargo in 1951 and had four wonderful sons.

Following discharge he owned and

operated the Thunderbird Tavern in

Ballard for 16 years, after which he joined the King County Police Force and retired after 20 years of service. He and Clarine lived on Vashon Island for 34 years where he enjoyed the many friends and fellow police officers. During his 82 years he enjoyed, fishing, golfing, cutting wood, and watching the Mariners, Seahawks and Sonics. Walter enjoyed the sun and spent many happy winters in Arizona.

Walter is survived by his wife Clarine, sons Monti (Maryanne), Marti (Diana), Randi (Rhonda) and Ricci, brother-in-law Anthony, grandsons Patrick and Tony, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Walt was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, sister Rita, Shirley and Maryann, and brother Ron.

His funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Vashon Island, 16100 – 115th Ave SW. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Harborview and Swedish Hospital and Park West Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
