Participate in Vashon caucus

Published 1:30 am Wednesday, March 2, 2016

With the great turnout in Iowa’s caucuses, Bernie Sanders has now become a viable candidate for the Presidency of the U.S.A. I have been politically active for my entire adult life and feel that our country now has hope for reform. I have been a Bernie supporter from the get-go and am grateful that the media is finally paying attention to him.

I lived in Vermont during the 1980s and early 90s and watched Bernie lead the city of Burlington, then the entire state, as he grew within the political system. He has never wavered from his values. He wants to see the middle class return, the minimum wage increase to a “living” wage, public colleges and health care affordable for all and get big money out of politics by campaign finance reform. These are just a few of his goals.

He admits he can’t do this alone. His movement is growing and the power of the people can help bring about this change. I’ve heard many people say that they like Bernie, but don’t believe he’s electable because he doesn’t have experience in international affairs. This is why Presidents appoint their cabinet members — to lead this country through the experience of several qualified people. If all the people who, at one time didn’t believe Bernie was electable, decide to vote for him now, then he can win.

Vashon’s caucus is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, at the O Space. People throughout the state of Washington will be meeting at different locations to discuss the reasons for their support of a particular candidate. It is extremely important that a high number of voters turn out so that we can talk about the candidates and come to a fair conclusion of who should best represent us.

Voting is a right we benefit from. Please vote.

Sincerely,
