The international, genre-breaking spectacular, MarchFourth, will bring its self-proclaimed “celebratory frenzy” to the Open Space for Arts & Community at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.
With 20 musicians plus dancers and acrobats, MarchFourth combines jazz, funk, rock, samba, Afro-beat, Gypsy brass and big band sound with a visual kaleidoscope of acrobats, unicyclists, lize-size marionetts, stilt walkers, Vaudeville-style performers and the fire arts.
The band hails from Portland, where the group first created a one-off performance in a Fat Tuesday parade on March 4,2003, hence the name MarchFourth. From its humble and beginnings, MarchFourth now tours internationally performing over 100 shows each year.
The all ages show is hosted by Open Space and Vashon Seals Swim Team as a benefit. The Seals aim to raise money for much needed improvements to Vashon’s outdoor pool, prior to the May 2017 opening. Funds will help with a renovation project that includes retrofitting the existing boiler and purchasing other needed equipment.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. with deejay Arturo spinning tunes, with the main event beginning at 6 p.m. The Orca Eats Foodtruck will sell food, and raffle tickets will be for sale.
Tickets are $18 General Admission and $21 at the door. Reserved seats are $30. Tickets are available at BrownPaperTickets.com and Vashon Bookshop.
