LETTER: New ‘resist’ movement provides hope

Since November 8, 2016, my voice has been silenced. It is hard to speak. The GOP runs the most flagrant voter fraud machine ever developed in this country: fake news, Russian intervention, purging legitimate voters, harassment of minority voters at their polling places, gerrymandering to insure congressional seats, etc.
After a lifetime of marching, writing, praying for the country I love and believe in, I thought we had crossed a threshold of maturity with the election of Barack Obama. I rejoiced that reason and intelligence had prevailed in America. That the rule of bombast, bullying, posturing, foreign and domestic meddling had finally passed.
I also sensed that the extreme popularity of Bernie Sanders meant that Americans might be on the verge of a progressive revolution. Even though Hillary was not as popular as Bernie, I was excited about the first female presidency.
Recently I have felt more hopeful realizing that at least 66 million of us are probably feeling the same sense of outrage over the election results. I have never been part of that massive a crowd, and I am looking forward to taking part in the “RESIST” movement.
