While some of her teammates were racing in New Zealand, the Burton Beach Rowing Club’s Gabbie Graves made a journey of her own to the second ever World Indoor Rowing Championships (rowing machines) in Long Beach, California. In an international field of 36 competitors, Graves finished fourth behind the winner, Alexandra Foster of the German national team, American rower Taylor English, and Elriska Podrazilova from Belarus. Graves, who is 16, and earned a silver medal at the World Junior Rowing Championships last year, competed in the U19 division. (Since the competition also served as the U.S. indoor rowing championship, and Graves had the second best U.S. time in her category, she received a silver medal.)
