Hannah and Nolan Morosoff were part of a nearly 50-person community group who worked together with The Land Trust to plant 1300 trees around the Judd Creek Preserve on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 19. The rain and the mud could not deter Hannah, who grew up on the island, and her son, from getting dirty and giving back to the community and the land that they love.
As part of King County’s 2015 Strategic Climate Action Plan, King County has committed to planting 1 million trees by 2020 to address climate change. Through February 2019, volunteers and organizations across King County have planted more than 700,000 trees.
As a part of the 1 million trees initiative, The Vashon Land Trust has committed to planting more than 5,000 trees before the end of 2020. The Land Trust is well on the way to achieving their goal with 1,300 trees in three hours on a single day through the support of the community.
Founded in 1989 by islanders concerned about the preservation and the beauty of natural areas on Vashon-Maury Island, The Land Trust has permanently protected more than 1,600 acres of land on the island. As a nonprofit, community-based organization, the Vashon Land Trust relies on contributions from businesses, foundations and grants as well as community members through volunteer hours and dollars.
