Scene & Heard: Pinewood Derby offers fun for scouts

Old-fashioned scouting fun and friendly competition took place at the annual Pinewood Derby, sponsored by Vashon Cub Scout Pack 275, at the Sportsmen’s Club held on Saturday, April 30.

Scouts and family members cheered on 27 homemade cars that competed in the Derby. Cub Scouts, assisted by parents, carved and decorated the 5-ounce blocks of pine, transforming them into race cars.

Five Cub Scout dens took part in the competition. Winners were:

First place: Kensie Staniewicz

Second place: Savvy Rodriguez

Third place: Kyra Morosoff

Most artistic car: Sinci de Ruyter and Garrett Dorr

Most realistic car: Garrett Dorr and Lauren Winjum

Funniest car: Izzy Schafer

Coolest car, Nolan Morosoff.
