The first visitors to Santa’s Cottage, since 2019, were Vashon Chamber board member and top Elf, Connie Sorensen, and her granddaughter, Isla Petersonn (Courtesy Photo).

On Sunday, Dec. 11, parents and friends accompanied more than 75 island kids, plus a few adorable pets, to sit on a special visitor’s lap and have their photos taken at Vashon’s own cozy Santa’s Cottage, located behind US Bank next to the Village Green.

It was the first time, since 2019, that Santa had been able to pay a visit to his cottage on Vashon, due to pandemic restrictions.

At the free event, children also handed their precious letters to Santa. Those who missed the event can still drop off letters for Santa at Vashon Bookshop — but parents should be sure to bring the letters to the bookshop by Dec. 22, marked with a return address, so Santa can reply.

Santa’s Cottage is a long-standing tradition on the island, sponsored by the Vashon Chamber of Commerce and Bettie Edwards.

This year, both the Chamber and Edwards have expressed special thanks to Bonnie Linnell, at Ace Hardware, for helping with lighting, and to Vashon Flooring, for replacing the carpet in the cottage.
