On Friday, Nov. 18, the annual Chautauqua Turkey Trot returned. The highly popular event engages fourth- and fifth- grade students in a turkey chase from the high school to Chautauqua. The turkeys this year were Vashon High School cross-country racers John Kehl, Lucy Boyle, Annie Muller and Cole Parks.

The younger students varied in their competitiveness with some running all-out and giving the turkeys a good chase, while others chose to walk the route or cheer their classmates. Prizes were awarded to the first four finishers for each grade for both boys and girls, and everyone had great fun, including the staff.

Next up on the local running scene is the Dec. 13 showing of “Chariots of Fire” at the Vashon Theater. The movie will start at 6 p.m. and is free to all, but donations are appreciated.

The 1981 movie, which won four Academy Awards, is an inspirational movie for runners and non-runners alike. The movie is also a fundraiser for Vashon XC, and any contributions will go toward next summer’s cross-country camp at Fort Casey.
