Mobile blood drive scheduled Monday

Cancelations of other blood drives in the Seattle region spark this one on Vashon

A blood drive is scheduled for Monday at an island business in light of many of these types of events being cancelled due to concerns of COVID-19.

The blood drive is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, March 9, at Vashon Island Home Center & Lumber, 97th Place S.W. The mobile bus will be located in the businesses parking lot.

A statement from Bloodworks NW says the Vashon blood drive is needed because many blood drives in the Seattle area have been canceled since companies are asking their employees to work from home due to the coronavirus outbreak that has effected King County.

“This is negatively impacting our community blood supply,” Bloodworks NW representative Nikki Watkinson wrote in an email. “The [Vashon] drive … has been scheduled to fill a cancelation. Apologies for the short notice but we hope you can attend and help restore blood inventory to stable levels.”
