Islander takes first at Washington state shoot

Mikie Hoffmann participated at the Washington State Sporting Clay Shoot at the Tacoma Sportsman’s Club July 31 through Aug. 2. More than 170 people participated in the three-day event in hot weather that topped 100 degrees.

Participants came from as far away as Canada and New Mexico to compete. Hoffmann took first place Friday in the preliminary, shooting 82 out of 100 clays and taking home the gold medal for the junior group and placing first overall in the Class C group.

He also took first in Saturday and Sunday’s main event, shooting 153 out of 200. Hoffmann earned enough in points to move to the Class B group for the Western Open “Top Gun” Shoot in Mount Vernon, Wash., Aug. 6 through Aug. 9, where he placed second in the main event.

Hoffmann is planning to go to nationals in Texas at the end of October.
