Plans are nearly complete for Vashon Pharmacy to open a mass booster vaccination site, possibly as soon as Oct. 11.

VashonBePrepared, the Emergency Operations Center, and Medical Reserve Corps are in the final stages of making arrangements to support the planned expansion of the Pharmacy’s booster vaccination program. If all goes well, the mass booster location will be a park-and-walk-in operation, not a drive-through, available only by appointment.

The clinic will be indoors, not under tents. When plans have been finalized, the details will be announced in The Beachcomber, social media, and on the Voice of Vashon Emergency Alert System.

Booster shots were being given all this week inside the Pharmacy, but all of the limited number of available appointments have been filled through the end of next week.

Only Pfizer vaccine boosters will be given at this time. The FDA and CDC have not yet approved booster shots for Moderna or Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

Boosters are available only for adults (18 and older) who have had both Pfizer injections more than six months ago. In addition, only the following people are currently eligible for boosters:

  • 65 years and older.
  • Age 50-64 with certain underlying medical conditions
  • Age 18-49 with certain underlying medical conditions, based on individual benefits and risks.
  • Age 18-64 at increased risk due to occupational or institutional setting.
  • Residents in long-term care settings.

At the booster appointments, patients will be required to show their vaccination card or another form of vaccination proof.
