Lip Sync Battle is back

Voice of Vashon – KVSH-FM will celebrate its seventh year on the air with its popular annual event — a Lip Sync Battle and Birthday Bash, to conclude on Oct. 14, in a virtual presentation.

“As much as we really really wanted to have a real-life birthday bash, the Delta variant has other plans,” said Kate Dowling, executive director of VoV. “So we are doing things a bit differently and bringing the party to islanders.”

According to Dowling, several fabulous local contestants will battle it out with their own music videos “that are sure to put MTV to shame.” Beginning on Oct. 1, islanders can see the videos and vote for their favorite contestants. The top three contestants will continue on to the live-stream finale of the Lip Sync Battle, to take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14. Visit VoiceOfVashon.org on Oct. 1, to find all the details and vote.

Recycle your styrofoam and plastics

Islanders can recycle styrofoam and plastics from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Sheffield Building, 18850 103rd Ave SW. Consider consolidating with your neighbors to keep the line short. Questions? A downloadable list of “What We Accept” can be found at ZeroWasteVashon.org and Vashon Styrofoam Recycling Facebook Page. Islanders can also contact Nadine at nadine@nadineedelstein.com.  Reproductive Rights March

As part of a nationwide protest in reaction to Texas’ anti-abortion law and attacks on reproductive rights, people will gather at the Vashon Theatre parking lot, socially distanced and masked, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2. Amelia Bonow, co-founder of Shout Your Abortion (SYA), a nationwide movement working to normalize abortion, will speak with ASL interpretation. Marchers will then march in a loop through Vashon town. A few chairs will be available for those who need them. People of all genders who strive for justice are encouraged to attend and bring a sign. Attendees may wear green if they want to walk in solidarity with the Green Tide movement in Latin America, which supports reproductive rights and women’s rights.

What do you want your sign to say? Please consider coming to a sign-making event from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Lewis Hall, behind Burton Community Church, 23905 Vashon Hwy SW, where all sign-making materials will be provided by SYA. For more information visit tinyurl.com/ddwvhms.
