King County Roads’ plan to improve lighting includes locations on this map (King County Graphic).

Driver and pedestrian safety improvements are coming soon to Vashon, and will begin this weekend with some tree-trimming in and near the town core.

This work is a direct result of feedback from the community, said Brent Champaco, a spokesperson for King County Local Services.

“We heard that community members wanted more lighting along this busy area,” said Champaco. “County Road Services also recognized the need for better lighting to improve safety at additional locations.”

As part of the work, crews will perform tree trimming along Vashon Highway SW, near the town core, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, in preparation for the lighting improvements.

Message signs will inform the public of the work at least 72 hours before it begins, and there will be minimal lane restrictions with traffic control at intersections, Champaco said.

Parking will additionally be restricted between SW Bank Road and SW 174th Street during the work.
