On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the King County Sheriff’s Office, King County Medic One, and Vashon Island Fire & Rescue responded to a one-vehicle accident near the Tahlequah ferry dock.

A vehicle went off the roadway, landing down an embankment on its top, with one person trapped inside. The occupant was unconscious and was extricated by first responders and transported to a trauma center in Tacoma with injuries. The car received significant damage, and a home at the crash site was also damaged.

The accident followed several days of freezing weather on Vashon, with roads still slick in places, according to Fire Chief Matt Vinci.

The identity of the driver of the vehicle and information about that person’s current condition has not been confirmed by The Beachcomber, as of press time.
