Don’t miss the opening of Vashon Opera’s 2025-26 “fairy tale season,” with performances of Jules Massenet’s “Cendrillon” (Cinderella) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Vashon Center for the Arts.
The opera, with a French libretto by Henri Cain, is based on Charles Perrault’s version of the fairy tale. Vashon Opera’s production will boast the local debuts of rising national and regional opera stars Sarah Colt (Cinderella) and Sarah Eduljee (Fairy Godmother), and the return of Vashon Opera favorite Grace Skinner as Prince Charming.
A host of other regional talents will also sing in the opera — and backstage and in the orchestra pit, other professional musicians and opera artists will help weave the magic spell.
Allison Pohl, the artistic director of the opera company, has called the company’s fairy tale season “exactly the salve and escape we need and crave,” and we agree.
What could be better than sitting in the dark for two hours, and hearing the old and familiar story sung by masterful singers in a powerful and exquisite new way?
Take the kids — who aren’t likely to ever forget the experience, especially if “Cendrillon” will be their introduction to the magic of opera sung in an intimate and accessible setting.
