Café Luna will show drawings and collages by Anna Witte, a local artist and children’s book author.
Granny’s Attic is jumping into the gallery scene with an exhibit of artwork previously donated to the thrift shop. The show, Granny’s In The Gallery — which includes a large painting from Haitian artist Duncan Reseme’s marketplace series, an unusual Art Hanson lithograph, a signed and numbered Fay Jones serigraph plus watercolors, prints, oils and pastels — will be hung at the Hastings-Cone Gallery, courtesy of Adam Cone and Megan Hastings. All the pieces will be for sale.
Dennis Clouse will be the artist of the month at Heron’s Nest. Clouse’s work is large-scale, bold and interpretive. The artist said he begins and ends his paintings with one fluid stroke or continuous line. “Working with a thick and unforgiving medium,” Clouse said, “I only get one chance— drawing again as a child.”
A group show, “Gallery of Gifts,” will be hung at Hinge Gallery and consist of inexpensive framed prints, limited edition and custom-made pieces by local artists.
“Setting the Table in Native Style” will be the new show at Raven’s Nest Gallery. There will be home decor and tableware with native imagery and design, including ceramics and painted textiles by Doe Stahr, cedar bark baskets and vases by DeAnn Jacobson, cutting boards and wooden bowls by Vashon woodworker Paula Allegrini plus glassware, cutlery, serving pieces and more.
Starving Artist Works (SAW) will feature all things knitted — colorful hats, scarves, fingerless gloves, purses, cat toys, dolls and more. Artists include Julia Hemphill, Janice Randall, Kim Brown, Marcy McCarthy, Lois Yunker, Diane Brenno, Alex Stemer, Jane Irish Nelson, Barb Weischaar, Mair Alight and Heather Brynn.
By popular demand, the Hardware Store Restaurant will show more work by Kristen Rietz-Green.
Treasure Island will present original advertising and editorial illustration from the 1970s and 80s.
Two Wall Gallery will show three adult and teen photography exhibits, including Vashon Allied Arts’ (VAA) annual summer photography workshop, VAA’s first photo transfers to beeswax workshop and McMurray photography.
VALISE Gallery will hold its annual member show “Five by Five.” Each artist in the collective received 5″x5″ wood panels to use for their art, which includes drawing, painting, photography and assemblage. Each piece of art will sell for $65.
For the first time, Vashon Allied Arts’ Gallery will host the Northwest Pastel Society Annual Member Exhibition, which includes several Vashon artists — Janice Wall, Jayne Quig, Jerry Balcom, Mary Hodgins, Sharon Munger, Cynthia Zheutlin and Marleen Steen. Awards will be presented at Friday’s opening.
