Column on pipeline raised critical issues; let’s all respond | Letter to the Editor

Regarding “Proposed pipeline is the wrong choice,” a column in the Sept. 7 issue of The Beachcomber, a huge bouquet of thanks to Jen Williams for representing Vashon at the largest civil disobedience action in front of the White House since the days of the Civil Rights Movement.

Kudos also go to The Beach-comber for printing her article, filled with facts as well as defining the larger aspects of the pipeline issue, which has gone almost unreported by the mainstream media. The question for us is how to follow up on Ms. Williams’ initiative.

I have three suggestions. First, recognize our personal responsibility in the consumption of fossil fuel. Second, constantly examine our use of oil/gasoline/natural gas and reduce. And third, call the White House at (202) 456-1111 weekly and request that President Obama cancel the Keystone Pipeline Project.

Ms. Williams is willing to make a stand and use the words “moral responsibility.” It’s been said not to choose is to choose.
