Backpack Pantry

In this time of increasing food need and reduced government benefits, Backpack Pantry, an all-volunteer Vashon group, is working to end childhood hunger on the island.

Each week during the school year, Backpack Pantry delivers an average of 45 bags of food to Vashon schools for weekend meals for children from low-income families. These are children who rely on school breakfasts and lunches as their

main source of nutrition during the week. The weekend food bags include oatmeal, pasta, soups, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meat and tuna and protein-rich snacks.
