Lane to the Glen, an Irish trio steeped in the music and history of the Sligo area, will play a concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at Vashon Havurah.
The Sligo style is an important style of Irish music, characterized by a fast tempo, intricate ornamentation and swing, and Lane to the Glen’s players have long dedicated themselves toward studying and mastering its rich traditions.
Trio members include fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmade, accordionist Daithí Gormley and pianist and dancer Samantha Harvey.
Diarmada collaborated on “Fiddlers of Sligo Tune book,” a publication that set transcriptions of the fiddle repertoire of key Sligo exponents alongside historic images and context.
Diarmada and Harvey perform worldwide with Téada, a worldwide-touring band founded by Diarmada in 2001, and together, have released “The Green Branch,” a sparkling 2015 album.
Gormley is regarded as one of the finest button accordion players of his generation. His debut album, ”Fiddling without a Bow,” brought an expressive mix of old and new tunes played with an attention to detail, and he is regarded as a conduit to past masters of Irish traditional music.
A $25 donation at the door, in cash or by check, is encouraged, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Reservations are encouraged: call or text Jan Strolle at 206-228-0730 or email Jan at janstrolle@comcast.net.
