Seattle band plays free outdoor concert
Seattle band Rabbit Wilde will play a free concert in Ober Park from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The group revamps classic string band instrumentation with homespun percussion, a six-string ukulele and cello. With widely varying influences and three distinct vocal styles, the band creates a sound that’s appealing to all audiences.
Seattle singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist Whitney Lyman will open for Rabbit Wilde.
Beatlemania hits the Red Bike
Vashon Events will host a showcase evening featuring local musicians playing songs from the Beatles at 8 p.m. Friday at the Red Bike.
Musicians will take the stage as solo, duo or ensemble performers to interpret one Beatles’ song. Throughout the evening, over 20 songs will be performed, each by a different act. The performances will highlight the variety of island musicianship and interpretations of the Beatles’ library of works.
The event is a fundraiser to support Vashon Events, a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to inspire and connect the community by promoting and producing extraordinary music experiences and supporting musicians by providing access to instruments, education, resources and opportunities for paid performances.”
Musicians scheduled to date include Scott Carness, Thomas Threlkeld, Ryan Hotchkiss, Zoey Rice, Loren Sinner, Ron Hook, Doug Pine, Roger Taylor, Joe Panzetta, Jon Whalen, Maijah Sanson-Frey, Christine and Toliver Goering, Camille and Gus Reeves, Jessika Satori, Julie Mainstone, Kevin Moe, Jamie Riley, Mike Dumovich, Scott Durkee, Andrea Walker and Bob Krinsky, with more expected to join in.
The $8 cover will go toward supporting Vashon Events. The show is open to all until 11 p.m, then only 21 and older.
Sounds of Hawaii come to Vashon
Father and son duo Mele’uhane will travel from the big island of Hawaii to perform on our island at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Katherine L White Hall. Keikilani and Leokani Lindsey come from more than five generations of paniolo — Hawaiian cowboys — musicians and composers. They celebrate Hawaiian culture with traditional Hawaiian favorites and original songs. Tickets are sold at vashoncenterforthearts.com.
