FIRST FRIDAY CONCERT

Mark your calendars for the First Friday gallery cruise of Nov. 2, which will include a free concert. From 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Vashon Center for the Arts, there will be a night of musicians “in the round.” The concert will feature JD Hobson, Jeff Kanzler and Gregg Curry. STORYTELLER MICHAEL MEADE

Michael Meade, a renowned mythologist, storyteller and author, will bring his unique blend of timeless and timely tales, unifying songs and unique perspectives on the issues of the day to his hometown of Vashon, with “Truth & the Living Soul,” an event happening at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Vashon United Methodist Church. NIGHT OF TENNESSEE WILLIAMS

Civic Rep, Vashon’s newest professional resident theater company, will present “Dragon Country: Four Short Plays by Tennessee Williams,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 (preview performance) and 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 9, 10, 16, and 17, and 4 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 11 and 18, at Open Space for Arts & Community. Williams, known best for masterpieces like “The Glass Managerie” and “A Streetcar Named Desire” was also the author of short plays, many of which were experimental in theme and style. Civic Rep’s production will include “The Lady of Larkspur Lotion,” “I Can’t Imagine Tomorrow,” “Something Unspoken” and “A Perfect Analysis Given by a Parrot.” A host of Vashon actors and directors are attached to the production. SADAKO AND HER CRANES

“A Thousand Thanks: The Gift of Sadako and Her Cranes,” a part of Vashon Center for the Arts’ family series, will be presented at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the arts center. The show is a world premiere by author, poet and magician Thomas Hitoshi Pruiksma, who will use magic, story and song to explore “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.” For tickets and more information, visit vashoncenterforthearts.org.

JOYFUL DEBUT OF LONGTIME POET

Joy Mutusky Goldstein, a well known elder poet, potter and peacenik, will read from her new poetry chapbook, “Discoveries,” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Vashon Community Care. The event and chapbook mark Goldstein’s “coming out” as a poet, though she has quietly written in the form since 1965. If you donate to Vashon Community Care, Goldstein will give you a copy of her chapbook.
