Drama Dock’s ‘Inspector Calls’

J.B. Priestley’s renowned political crime thriller, “An Inspector Calls,” will be presented by Drama Dock Theatre Company from June 22 to 25, at Vashon Center for the Arts.

Evening performances will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, June 22-24, with matinees scheduled at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25.

“An Inspector Calls” is a classic British play, originally staged in 1945. Combining elements of mystery and gripping social commentary, the play delves into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a young woman.

Priestley, who wrote the play, was also a highly regarded novelist, screenwriter, and essayist in mid-twentieth century Britain.

Under the direction of Drama Dock’s artistic director, Lisa Peretti, the production features a cast of veteran local actors, including Bill Epstein, Christopher Kehoe, Stephanie Murray, Alyssa Norling, Gaye Detzer, and Gabriel Dawson.

Reed Harvey, an experienced actor with professional credits on stage, television, and film, including appearances alongside John Travolta and John Heard, will play the pivotal role of the Inspector.

Tickets for “An Inspector Calls” are now available for purchase. Additionally, tickets for the opening night pre-party at 5:30 p.m. at the Minglement on June 22 are also on sale. For more information and to buy tickets, visit dramadock.org/on-stage.

Jazzy June finale

Vashon Jazz Guy Bruce Phares will conclude his “Jazzy June” duet series with a duet with virtuoso vibraphonist Ben Thomas, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Vashon’s Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit.

“Ben is an incredibly accomplished virtuoso on the vibes; an improviser and composer of deep expressiveness, wit, and crisply focused execution,” said Phares.

Thomas leads his own ensembles, writes and composes, has cut five solo albums, and is well-known for his role in the Jovino Santos Neto’s Quinteto. His artistry on the bandoneon (an expressive cousin to the accordion and a central element in the sound of tango music) is acclaimed, Phares added.
