Author reads from new young adult novel

Island author Bob Jonas will read from his new novel “Death Brew” at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Vashon Bookshop.

“Death Brew,” set in Erlengen, Germany, is the sequel to Jonas’ previous novel, “Imposter,” which took place in Saudi Arabia.

The main character, 16-year-old Zane Walker, got lucky when he survived numerous near-death experiences in Saudi Arabia, where he impersonated an online cleric for a media studies class at an international school. Not only does he create a media personae though, he nearly creates an international incident.

Moving with his family to what seems like safety in Germany, Walker soon discovers that he is now a hero of a fascist, right wing, neo-Nazi movement. His safe haven turns into a place of danger and intrigue.

Jonas was a school librarian for twenty-one years — four in Oregon, seven in China, three in South America, three in Saudi Arabia and three in Germany —before he retired in 2015.
