Gilmer grew up in the mountains of southwestern Virginia and learned traditional bluegrass music the old-fashioned way — at the local barbershop with the regular gathering of seasoned pickers.

Using traditional bluegrass and country music as his foundation, Ben started writing songs in high school that reflected his growing appreciation for Americana, alt-country and roots music.

Gilmer has entertained at pubs, coffee houses and concert venues throughout the region for the past 10 years and is now based in the Pacific Northwest.

41 Miles, hailing from the Poulsbo-Gig Harbor area, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the café.

The group plays original folk rock.

Celtic music players and knitters are invited to gather at the café for a combination of jigs, reels, polkas and homespun crafting from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at the café.

This gathering occurs every third Sunday of the month.
