Red Bicycle Bistro is seeking artists who create two-dimensional art to exhibit their work on the restaurant walls in 2011. All months are open for booking at this time.

Calling all fiddlers, cellists, guitarists and bassists

Island musicians and teachers Kim Thal and Shane Jewell are looking for young musicians to join the Rock Island String Kollective (RISK), a group for string musicians ages 10 through 18. Beginning at the end of January, the group will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Minglemint conference room.

RISK will focus on folk and popular music and is open to all levels of ability. The mission of RISK is to inspire young people to come together and share musical inspiration in an informal setting. For more information, e-mail Thal at kim.thal22@gmail.com or Jewell at shanefiddle@gmail.com.

Be in ‘Guys and Dolls’

Vashon Allied Arts has announced a new collaboration with Vashon Teen Music Theatre Project (VTMTP). Starting in January, the creative team of Marita Ericksen, Sue Wiley, Tish Lopez and Rich Wiley will reunite to bring “Guys and Dolls Junior” to the Blue Heron stage. The musical will accommodate a cast of more than 20 actors in grades 6 through 12. VTMTP will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Jan. 11. Performances will take place April 29 through May 1, 2011.  Everyone who signs up for the class will be in the production. To register, call 463-5131.

Take the reins at VoV

Voice of Vashon’s VoV TV is looking for a volunteer to oversee a video production contest this spring. The contest is aimed at encouraging do-it-yourself video creation. The entire community will vote on video submissions. Winners will be awarded, and all productions will be shown on VoV TV Comcast Cable Channel 21 and online outlets.
