Get ready for concerts, a musical and an art tour

Café Luna brews up music, dance

Watermark, an Island acoustic folk rock band with instrumentation that includes acoustic guitars, harmony singing and flute solos, will play a free show at 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Café Luna. Roger Taylor, Kevin Almeida and Larry Lawson are in the band.

The next night, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 23, the café will pulse to the passionate sounds of tango music. A duo, Bandomonium, will perform tango music in an evening hosted by Island tango teacher and musician Janeen Bramwell and her duo partner Mimi Henley. The café will clear out the tables to make room for Vashon’s tango community to strut their stuff.

‘Guys and Dolls’ is coming up

Get ready for “Guys and Dolls, Jr.,” a rollicking, award-winning musical staged by 24 talented Island actors between the ages of 12 and 15. Under the direction of Marita Ericksen and Sue Wiley, the musical will bring 1930s-era New York to life with all the characters made famous by the timeless show. Vashon Island Youth Chorus will introduce the show with a set of Broadway tunes from such favorites as “Mamma Mia,” “Into the Woods,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Annie.”  Some of the younger chorus members are also in “Guys and Dolls,” appearing as pint-sized crapshooters, a mission band and hotbox girls. The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1. Call 463-5131 to purchase tickets.

A concert celebrates songwriters

Tracy Spring and Larry Murante, noted Northwest singers and songwriters, will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m.  Saturday, April 30, at the Common House at Vashon Cohousing, located at 10420 SW Bank Rd. An admission of $8 to $15 is suggested for the concert. Spring, a Bellingham resident, and Murante, from Seattle, are both known for their emotive singing, exceptional guitar work and award-winning songwriting.
