Just Fiddlin’ and friends come together to play

Music fans can rediscover American roots music in an upcoming Vashon Allied Arts New Works concert.

Just Fiddlin’ and Friends will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Blue Heron Art Center. Tickets are $12 and $14, and are available at Books by the Way, Heron’s Nest, Blue Heron Art Center and, if not sold out, at the door. Call 463-5131 to reserve.

The concert will feature members of Vashon’s all-girl band, Just Fiddlin’ ’Round, joined by several of their musical mentors.

The band is comprised of 13-year-old Megan Hackett on fiddle, mandolin and vocals and her sister 10-year-old Merideth Hackett on banjo and vocals.

They will be joined by Paul Colwell on mandolin; Rochelle Wolf on banjo; Steve Amsden on lead guitar; Stan Voynick on bass; Jean Richstad on fiddle and vocals and Lanora Hackett on rhythm guitar.

Just Fiddlin’ ’Round has played Straw-berry Festival, Lavender Farm Tour, Farmer’s Market, North-west Folklife and Kitsap County Fair. They also performed on Seattle Channel 21’s “Big Night Out,” hosted by Kevin Joyce.
