Let the First Friday gallery walk put a spring in your step

Most galleries and art spots are open from 6 to 9 p.m.

Heron’s Nest will feature Margaret Tylczak Heffelfinger’s brightly colored dog paintings in the first exhibit of her work since Silverwood Gallery closed. Limited edition giclee prints will be available.

Hinge Gallery will show work by Seattle fiber and metal artist Suzanne Tidwell, who creates kinetic installations, with hand-knit fibers over welded metal forms.

Island Quilter’s farewell exhibit, “ManMade 4,” will feature work by male quilters, with pieces from Vashon to New York. Award-winning quilts, quilts featured in books or magazines and quilts by Luke Haynes and Joe Cunningham will be on display. Anja Moritz, owner of Island Quilter said, “We are looking forward to making our last exhibit one of our finest.”

PSCCU will feature photography by island photographer Lotus and music by Vashon’s Daryl Redeker.

Raven’s Nest will exhibit traditional cedar boxes by David and Zach Boxley. Israel Shotridge’s award-wining bentwood chest will be on display. Two bentwood boxes by Bruce Haulman will also be exhibited.

Roadside Attraction kitchen and bath design and Vashon Tile Company will hold a grand opening in their new joint studio and showroom at 9816 Bank Road, the former home of Skunkworks.

Snapdragon will show work by Seattle artist and musician Jana McCall.

The Hardware Store Restaurant will feature island native and travel/nature photographer Aaron McCoy. McCoy, whose work is on the cover of Lonely Planet guidebooks, TIME, Sunset and National Geographic Traveler magazines, was introduced to photography at Vashon High School. Though he has lived and traveled extensively in Central and South America, McCoy said that Vashon has always been his base. “The show is a retrospective,” McCoy said. “I’ve included my favorite shots of Vashon over the years.”

VALISE will present “Pretty Little Heads,” a collection of video, sound and sculptural artwork by Seattle artists Molly Mac and Julia Freeman.

Acclaimed Vashon artists Britt Freda and Charlotte Masi will show their work in the VAA Gallery.

Vashon Community Care will showcase work by two local artists, illustrator Rayne Beaudoin and watercolorist Geri Peterson. Both artists work in watercolor and gouache and portray many images of Vashon.

Vashon Intuitive Arts will show artist Marjon McDermott’s acrylic paintings on canvas.

Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum will open a show in honor of the Point Robinson Lighthouse’s 100th anniversary. See story on page 1.

Vashon Senior Center will open “Joy in Nature,” watercolors and monotypes of landscapes and flowers by island artist Ilse Reimnitz. The baked potato bar will be open from 5 to 7 p.m.

Vashon Tea Shop will feature oil paintings of water scenes and seascapes by island artist Hartmut Reimnitz.
