Master guitar and mandolin player to present local concert

A versatile string virtuoso, Flynn Cohen has performed all over the world with many notable acts in traditional and contemporary acoustic music.

Master guitar and mandolin player Flynn Cohen will present a concert of ancient and modern songs and fiddle tunes, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Vashon Havurah.

Dirty Linen Magazine recognized Flynn as “a versatile string virtuoso,” and he has performed all over the world with many notable acts in traditional and contemporary acoustic music. He has been seen in concert with the American folk band Low Lily (formerly known as Annalivia), and the acclaimed Irish accordion player John Whelan, as well as in duo shows sharing music from his four solo albums.

He has also fused stylistic influences of bluegrass, old-time, Irish traditional music, folk-rock, and early music in performances with a who’s who of other noted artists of those genres — these include Ruth Moody, Matt Heaton, Halali, Aoife Clancy, John McGann, Matt Glaser, The Boxcar Lillies and Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble, among others. He has performed at the Library of Congress and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., as well as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Donation for the concert is $20-$25 at the door, by cash or check only. Contact Jan Strolle at janstrolle@comcast.net or 206-228-0730 for advanced reservations. Vashon Havurah is located at 15401 Westside Hwy SW, Vashon. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23.
