The 2022 Vashon Island Holiday Art Studio Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 3-4 and 10-11 — a long-anticipated return to an island tradition which has been on hiatus for the past years, due to COVID restrictions.

The tour is a free, self-guided event, produced by Vashon Island Visual Artists, a membership organization that provides a range of services and opportunities for local artists.

This year’s complete tour includes 38 stops, at studios and local galleries presenting fiber art, glass, jewelry, candles, pottery, tile and mosaic art, photography, sculpture, prints, paintings, and more.

This year, Maury Island artists are making a special push to ensure that tour-goers don’t miss the delight of visiting their studios during the tour.

In all, six Maury Island studios will participate in the broader tour, showing the work of 16 local artists.

These include:

Studio #10 — Cathy Sarkowsky’s studio, featuring her paintings, prints, ceramics, scarves and cards.

Studio #11 — The Reimnitz Family Studio, featuring watercolors and prints by Ilse Reimnitz, oil paintings by Hartmut Reimnitz and steel sculptures by Gunter Reimnitz.

Studio #12 — Gretchen Hancock’s studio, where her oil paintings will be on display.

Studio #13 — Lisa Witherspoon’s Jewelbox Studio showcases her intricate distinctive jewelry.

Studio #14 — Dockton Pottery (Gale Lurie’s studio) will show the work of seven artists. In addition to Lurie’s functional and Raku pottery, the studio will showcase Alice Larsen’s origami work, Christie Penning’s casual jewelry, Robin Mallory’s hand-dyed napkins, pillows, and more; Gail Hapeman’s stained glass work, Jeanne Marie Thomas’ watercolors and Yulia Ivashchenko’s felt hats and scarves.
