Hobsen/Person plays: The well-known Island duo will serenade diners at Sound Food from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. The group is booked to play every Wednesday night at the eatery through Nov. 18.

Old movies nights: Thursdays are 16mm film night nights at Sound Food. Enjoy funny old movies while you dine. Films roll from 5:30 to 9 p.m on Thursdays, starting Oct. 29.

Peter Ray and Lunavision present “Bombies”: This documentary film by Jack Silberman tells the story of the deadly legacy of unexploded cluster bombs in Laos. The film plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Café Luna. Admission is free.

Tahoma Trio plays: The Gig Harbor group, which includes James Bryan, Jesse Savage and Dan Frasu, plays blues, soul, country, Latin, originals and old rythmn and blues songs. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Café Luna. Admission is free.

Shy Sundays on Friday: The Vashon acoustic band will entertain diners at Sound Food from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. No cover charge.

Captain Smartypants and Sensible Shoes are coming up: Two popular choral groups will perform pop, jazz and comedy at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Open Space for Arts & Community. Captain Smartypants, a Seattle Men’s Chorus ensemble, has performed all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond, sharing stages with the likes of Nell Carter and Rosemary Clooney. The group repertoire includes swing, doo-wop, pop covers, Motown, technopop, barbershop and more. Sensible Shoes is an ensemble of Seattle Women’s Chorus. Tickets, $20 in advance or $25 at the door, are available at Books by the Way, Vashon Bookshop and www.brownpapertickets.com. The show is for ages 21 and older only. Identification will be checked at the door.

Alex De Grassi plays next week: Guitarist Alex De Grassi will play at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Blue Heron Art Center. Called “an acoustic guitarist of virtuosic strength and ability” by The Los Angeles Times, De Grassi is a Grammy-nominated musician who has released more than a dozen recordings on labels including Windham Hill, RCA Novus, Tropo Records, 33rd Street and others. David Lindley plays a benefit for Rotary: David Lindley will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Vashon High School. Lindley, who was a featured accompanist with Jackson Browne and leader of the band El Rayo-X, is a champion of world music. His performances combine American folk, blues and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Malagasy and Turkish musical sources. He plays instruments including Hawaiian lap steel guitar, Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud and Irish bouzouki. The concert will benefit renovations to Vashon Senior Center and Rotary’s work in promoting community development in 13 Guatemalan villages. Tickets are $25 and $60 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com.
