Music on the Rock

Hobson/Person will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Sound Food.

Paul Benoit will play at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi. Benoit has performed and recorded his own music and collaborated with numerous songwriters for the past 20 years. His newly released CD, Bluebird, was recorded in a small beach village in El Salvador and placed 23rd on the 2009 Euro-Americana Charts. Benoit is followed at the Bike by Sidestreet Reny, a duo that takes the stage at 11 p.m. The duo blends bluesy/funky finger-style and slide on National Resonator guitar with poignant songwriting and straightforward grooves. Cover charge is $5.

Steve and Kristi Nebel, a husband-and-wife team that has toured internationally, returns to Vashon at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, with a show at Café Luna. The Nebels, who recently returned from a tour of Japan and who played at Café Luna in June, have recorded seven CDs of their Americana songs, many of which include reflections of Pacific Northwest and Alaskan culture, with topics including fishermen, the Pike Place Market and pioneering in the Northwest.

House Engine plays at the Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Considered the Bike’s “official rock ‘n’ roll house band,” House Engine provides an excuse to get out on the dance floor and shake it. The music is primarily blues, but varies with a little rock, alternative country, originals, Motown and funk thrown in. This show is an all-ages event until 11 p.m., when the event is for those 21 and over. There is a $5 cover.

The 85 voices of the Vashon Island Chorale will ring in the holiday season with concerts at Bethel Church at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. The centerpiece of the program is Antonio Vivaldi’s masterwork “Gloria.” The performance will be accompanied by an 18-piece professional orchestra, including trumpet, oboe, organ, harp and strings and feature soloists Jennifer Krikawa, a former singer with New York City Opera and founder of Vashon Opera, plus Anne Terry and Susan Valenti. The church is located at 14736 S.W. Bethel Lane. Tickets, $12.50 general admission and $10 for seniors and students, are on sale at Vashon Bookshop, Books by the Way and the Blue Heron.
