Watermark plays at Luna

Vashon’s Watermark band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Café Luna. There is no cover charge.

Watermark plays folk to blues to acoustic rock, grooves and ballads, with plenty of guitars, harmony singing and flute solos. The band is Roger Taylor on guitar and vocals, Kevin Almeida on bass and vocals, Larry Lawson on flutes and Charles Reed on guitar and vocals.

VMCO looks for strings

Vashon-Maury Chamber Orchestra welcomes Islanders to join the group.

The orchestra is currently inviting string players to join for an upcoming set of concerts that will be held on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1. No audition is required. Violins and violas are highly desired. Contact sasjafmb24@msn.com or Gaye Detzer at detzerubicz@comcast.net. Rehearsals are held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the Vashon High School band room.

Knit and purl with music

Every third Sunday of the month, including Sunday, April 20, from 6 to 8 p.m., knitters of all abilities are invited to bring their projects to Café Luna to knit, schmooze and learn from each other while the Celtic Players work their understated and merry music.

VAA Garden Tour tickets

Vashon Island’s 18th annual Garden Tour will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22, and it will feature five gardens.

Tickets are available for $25 per person. If bought before May 31, they are only $20.

Tickets (good for both Saturday and Sunday) are also available both days of the tour at Blue Heron Art Center at19704 Vashon Hwy. SW.

In addition to viewing five beautiful gardens, ticket holders may attend free seminars offered by landscape architect Michael Lee, owner of Colvos Creek Nursery, on the use and care of natives in the garden; artist and landscape designer Jack Strubbe on the Asian influence in Northwest gardens; plus amateur naturalists and birders Alan Huggins and Sara Van Fleet on attracting feathered visitors.

New this year will be a plant sale in one of the gardens.

Also expect to hear live music and poetry, watch plein-air painters at work and check out the garden market and view all the amazing art in the gardens by Island artists.

The Garden Connoisseurs event for serious gardeners will take place twice, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. or 3 to 4:30 p.m., Friday, June 20, when designer/author Terry Hershey will lead groups through his garden. Registration for the connoisseurs event is limited to offer participants ample time for questions.

Tickets are $40 per person or $55 with a tour ticket.
