Poetry Well for December

The Poetry Well is a monthly column that showcases island poetry. This month includes a poem by Vashon High School senior Xavier Ajeto.

Wall

What happens to a nightmare uncured?

Does it devolve into a diversion of desperation?

Moulding a man into a mumbling mass of maniacal maliciousness?

Does he stoop so low as to goad like a toad?

To clock a doc with a block of chalk?

To send a prude dude a lewd nude?

To breath* meth with a deaf chef?!

Dropping dignity, devoid of diligence.

Despicable.

The things people do for gratification.

It may make cents

but does it make sense?

*Intentionally misspelled in order to further elaborate on the absurdity of the examples.

Also misspelled in order to make it rhyme for artistic reasons.

Ajeto is well known at Vashon High School for his roles in past plays, including “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “Anything Goes” and, most recently, “Private Wars.”

In addition to his acting, Ajeto’s passions include history, philosophy, tap dancing, nice suits, swing music, southern-style barbecue and creative writing.
